The beauty of the Crisp & Clean business model is that for a very reasonable fee, the franchisee will be provided with a complete turnkey operation, incorporating a well-equipped professional laundry and a good quality carpet clean machine that will allow them to build and benefit from a second revenue steam. A significant benefit of the Crisp & Clean franchise model is that franchisees are levied by territory, not per store and as the allocated territories are generously proportioned, franchisees are able to open multiple outlets in their territory without incurring additional franchise fees.

Crisp & Clean’s door-to-door business model allow franchisees to build a base of domestic and commercial laundry and dry-cleaning clients. The complementary cleaning services which utilise the same resources used for collections and deliveries should be employed to generate immediate positive cash flow while the customer base for laundry and dry-cleaning is built up. Franchisees are strongly encouraged to develop both revenue streams as this will allow them to reach break-even sooner while contributing to their ongoing profitability.

In the main Metros, franchisees will be allocated multiple wards, each incorporating several suburbs, while in the Local Municipalities the franchise area will encompass the entire municipal area. While the franchisor recommends venues in affordable retail locations, franchisees may also consider mini-factories in semi-industrial areas as these locations typically offer cheaper rental rates. Semi-industrial/mini-factory locations, however, should only be considered by franchisees confident in their selling skills as these locations don’t enjoy the benefit of walk-in customers. 

Resourcing the business properly from the outset is critical to the success of the business. At a minimum, franchisees must employ a driver and assistant to manage the laundry and dry-cleaning collections and deliveries, but also to handle the carpet cleaning, hygiene and steam cleaning services. Franchisees are advised to personally undertake the critical role of sales consultant as nobody will be more passionate about the business than the owner.

Support to the franchise network is clearly set out in the franchise agreement and includes stringent service level criteria that the franchisor must adhere to. 

The support system developed by the franchisor includes two days’ initial franchise training for the franchisee, technical training for staff in the field and ongoing operational support and training as required. 

The franchisor also provides detailed online Operations Manuals and online CRM (customer relationship management) system that allow franchisees to engage and track customers.
